Simple Framework for the Sproochentest
Practise describing a picture in simple Luxembourgish using a clear structure for people, places, objects, actions, weather, and opinions.
1. Simple structure
- Say where the photo was taken
- Say what you see
- Describe the people

2. Start the description
- Op der Foto gesinn ech ... — In the photo I see ...
- Dës Foto weist ... — This photo shows ...
- Ech mengen, d'Foto ass dobannen gemaach. — I think the photo was taken indoors.
- Ech mengen, d'Foto ass dobausse gemaach. — I think the photo was taken outdoors.
- D'Foto gouf am Dag gemaach. — The photo was taken during the day.
- D'Foto gouf owes gemaach. — The photo was taken in the evening.
3. Describe the people
- Ech gesinn eng Fra. — I see a woman.
- Ech gesinn e Mann. — I see a man.
- Ech gesinn zwee Kanner. — I see two children.
- D'Persoun ass jonk. — The person is young.
- D'Persoun ass ongeféier 30 Joer al. — The person is about 30 years old.

4. Describe the clothes

5. Describe the place

8. Describe the weather

- Et ass waarm. — It is warm.

- Et reent. — It is raining.
- Et ass bewölkt. — It is cloudy.
- D'Sonn schéngt. — The sun is shining.

9. Give a short opinion
- Ech fannen d'Foto schéin. — I find the photo beautiful.

- D'Foto ass interessant. — The photo is interesting.
- D'Leit gesi frou aus. — The people look happy.
- D'Atmosphär ass roueg. — The atmosphere is calm.

12. Grammar tip
In Luxembourgish, adjectives change depending on the gender of the noun.
Basic Pattern:
- Masculine → usually ends with -en
- Feminine → usually no ending
- Neuter → usually ends with -t
Examples:
- e groussen Hond — a big dog (masculine)
- eng kleng Kaz — a small cat (feminine)
- e klengt Kand — a small child (neuter)
Colors also change:
- e bloen T-Shirt — a blue T-shirt (masculine)
- eng blo Box — blue trousers (feminine)
- e blot Hiem — a blue shirt (neuter)
- e groussen Hond — the "n" stays (H keeps it)
- e grousse Bierg — the "n" disappears (B removes it)
Common Examples for Image Description:
- e rouden Auto — a red car
- eng wäiss Taass — a white cup
- e grousst Haus — a big house
- eng schwaarz Jackett — a black jacket
- e bronge Kanapee — a brown sofa
- e klenge Jong — a small boy
- eng al Fra — an old woman
Safer exam approach: When unsure, put the adjective after the noun:
- D'Persoun ass jonk.
- D'Jackett ass blo.
- D'Kand ass kleng.
