Model Worship
Model Worship (n.) Treating an AI model's output as truth because the model is complex and expensive.
Explanation
The more sophisticated and expensive the model, the less people question it. Complexity becomes authority. Cost becomes credibility. Neither is a valid reason to trust output.
Operational Example
A company spends 2 million on a demand forecasting model. The model predicts a 40 percent demand spike. Nobody questions it because of the investment. They over-order. Demand is flat.
Why It Matters
Model worship removes healthy skepticism from decision-making. The model becomes unquestionable — which is exactly when it becomes dangerous.
What Most Teams Get Wrong
They treat model confidence as certainty. They do not maintain human override authority.
What Strong Teams Do Differently
Every model output is a suggestion, not a decision. Human judgment remains the final authority. Cost of the model does not equal accuracy of the model.
